Providing containers and identification labels
SARPI provides UN approved containers and pouches in order to ensure the safe storage, handling and transport of chemical and hazardous waste in healthcare facilities and laboratories: containers, buckets, demijohns, drums, crates, pallet boxes, wire crates, neon kits, big bags and packs of labels for waste identification and sorting.
Safe disposal of chemical waste from laboratories and healthcare facilities
Chemical waste generated by laboratories may be a CMR or genotoxic risk or be highly reactive and must follow a secure disposal process without being handled. SARPI's network includes several direct injection incineration centres. This prevents staff from being exposed in any way and stops storage incompatibility from being an issue.
Managing the collection, transport and treatment of IMW (infectious medical waste) and biologically contaminated waste
Potentially infectious medical waste, biologically contaminated products, out-of-date drugs, laboratory chemical waste: for hospitals SARPI develops a comprehensive hazardous waste management service and deploys a secure method throughout the waste sorting, storage, collection and disposal chain. SARPI disposes of hospital waste in compliance with the current regulations (chemical or biological incineration), destroying or recovering each type of waste using the appropriate process. IMW is incinerated without being handled (direct injection) in specialised IMW centres which hold specialist prefectural certification.
Removing hazardous waste from challenging environments worldwide
As the world experts in hazardous waste re-packaging and transport (pesticides, PCB, POPs, petroleum waste, asbestos, contaminated soil, halon gas etc.), Veolia Field Services manages hazardous waste on complex worksites and in challenging environments (including deserts and the South Atlantic Islands) worldwide. Veolia Field Services runs the whole process for the waste producer, takes responsibility for labelling the repackaged waste and the Dangerous Goods Notes (DGNs), which are mandatory when shipping dangerous goods. Veolia Field Services undertakes the notification procedures (TSF), arranges equipment (containers, pumps, hiring machinery etc.) and the recruitment/training of local teams. We check/make an inventory of the waste needing repackaging, we do the repackaging, labelling and load the shipping containers, we organise transport (road, sea, rail) and delivery to appropriate treatment and recovery units. Container unloading is supervised by Veolia Field Services drawing on a network of partners selected for their ability to comply with safety regulations at every stage of the transport process. Containers entrusted to freight transporters are tracked throughout their rail and sea journeys.
Managing MARPOL waste
SARPI is a port authority partner for the proper implementation of the mandatory waste reception and treatment plans for ships: pumping, cleaning and collection of waste from ships in berth or at anchor. SARPI's expertise includes management of all MARPOL waste (annexes 1 to 6), whether or not it is classed as hazardous. SARPI has waste treatment centres close to ports and in some cases in the harbour area in France and Belgium.
